Benefits

Delivering a seamless transition from development to sustainment for a critical digitized mail infrastructure.

Mission

The fundamental mission of the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) is to provide Veterans, service members, and their families the benefits they have earned through their military service to the United States.  VBA accomplishes its mission by delivering client-centered, personalized services that help Veterans readjust to civilian life and enhance their well-being.

Scope of work

Bracari supported VBA's Digitized Mail Handling Services (DMHS) project with Scrum and agile development experts.  Bracari provided task leadership, support, and coordination for the DMHS development teams, driving areas across the tech solution including requirements, UI development, backend development, quality assurance, release management and production operations. to ensure effective and efficient iterative development and ultimately the delivery of products and services to Veterans Affairs customer.

OUTCOME

Bracari was able to deliver the desired agile cadence through a reorganization of the work breakdown structure and SCRUM rituals.  Backlog Grooming and Pre-Planning activities were restructured to improve stakeholder engagement and prioritization of the work for the next iteration to drive requirements readiness.  This insured development ready work items that were ready to be accepted by the development team.  Other aspects of the project were impacted utilizing the Bracari SDLC methodology to influence release planning and execution activities in a positive direction.  Visibility into the development phase was provided to the Quality Assurance teams.  The release readiness process was improved to mitigate release risks and increase coordination of the release event.

Ultimately Bracari’s agile expertise and SDLC solutions helped drive the project out of a defect backlog into a more manageable sustainment phase, with scheduled releases under control and a renewed ability to focus on future system enhancements.
